Things I Wish I Knew Before Buying a Hot Tub

Things I Wish I Knew Before Buying a Hot Tub

Considering purchasing a hot tub for your space? The search can be overwhelming with a lot of options to choose from. Before purchasing a hot tub, there are a couple of questions you should ask so you know you are making a well-informed investment. Let’s go over them.

WHICH HOT TUB IS RIGHT FOR ME?

There are typically three different types of spas that are available to purchase: plug-and-play spas, luxury hardwired spas, and swim spas. The decision between the three depends on what features you are looking for, your budget, the space you have, and the electrical work you are willing to get done.

Check out THIS blog post to learn more about the difference between plug-and-play spas and our luxury 240V spas.

Also consider the features you are looking for in a spa. This includes sizes, types of seating, number of jets, waterfalls, lighting, and sound options. Our spas even come with aromatherapy! Ask about these features so you know you are getting the full-sensory experience you are looking for.

WHAT ARE THE COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH PURCHASING A HOT TUB?

Depending on the spa you get, there will be electrical wiring that needs to be done (by a licensed electrician) and a base will need to be installed. Delivery may also be charged. Some other costs include chemicals for maintaining your spa and filter replacements.

Read THIS to see what bases we recommend for your spa.

Additionally, you will see an increase of $0.50 to $1.00 a day in your energy bill. The cost varies depending on your climate, the spa chosen, your ideal temperature of the water, usage, and the insulation the spa has.

Canadian Spa Company hot tubs are energy-efficient to keep your costs low. Our spas use infrared-reflective material (that keeps the heat in like a baked potato), and high density closed-cell foam on the inside of our cabinet panels and throughout the spa to trap the heat.

This heat is then used through our unique reclamation system, where the hot air is pulled from the cabinet and injected back into your spa through the jets. This means your pump doesn’t have to work any harder to compensate for cold air. Additionally, since heat rises, our 4-season model-specific covers retain your spa water’s heat – even during cold winters!

WHAT TYPE OF MAINTENANCE CAN I EXPECT?

To ensure you always have a clean tub, clear water, and are doing your part to conserve the longevity of the spa, maintaining your spa chemistry is important. Chemical maintenance is a small investment for a big return – relaxation for years to come. Ask about filtration systems too!

Here’s a quick hot tub chemical guide:

All Canadian Spa Company spas come with a Glacier AO₃P system. This consists of Glacier filters (includes antimicrobial protection and silver ions) and an Ozone generator to assist with water cleanliness. The AO₃P system is also UV ready, for additional sanitation strength. With the UV light installed (purchased separately), the system sterilizes up to 99.9% of bacteria in your hot tub

We also recommend draining, cleaning, and refilling your tub every season for a fresh start. Take a look at THIS blog post to learn how

WHAT WARRANTY COMES WITH MY SPA? WHAT SERVICES DO YOU PROVIDE?

Your hot tub is a large investment that you want to last for years. Always ask about warranty and servicing options so you are not left to cover any necessary fixes yourself.

We offer extensive after-sales support and servicing options. Check out our SERVICING PAGE to see more.

WHAT COVERS, ACCESSORIES, AND FURNITURE ARE AVAILABLE?

Different types of covers and cover lifters are available on the market to best fit your needs. Covers are important as they protect your spa’s shell, insulate to retain your spa water’s heat, and keep unwanted gunk out. We recommend pairing your cover with a cover lifter that stop the need for lifting and keep your spa covers off the ground.

To complete your spa setup, look into furniture options such as steps, bars, and sofas. This will ensure that your brand-new hot tub will become the entertainment spot for your family and friends! Read more on how to customize your setup using Canadian Spa Company’s surround furniture HERE.

While there are many things to take into consideration, the research you do will lead you to a spa purchase that will change your day-to-day life. Create a private oasis where you can unwind after a long day and enjoy hydrotherapy or a space for your family and friends to kick back!
